Tertiary treatment of disinfection employing ultrasound and ozone

Dates:

From november 2008

to november 2010

Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (CDTI)

Description:

The objective of this project is the study of a new process for disinfecting the water based on a combination of ozone and ultrasounds. Among the expected benefits of this new technology are:

.- There is no need for the addition of chemical reagents
.- The costs of replacing equipment are low
.- There is no need for a previous treatment such as physical-chemical and / or a filtering process for removing solids before entering the process
.- Energy costs reduction
.- Microcontaminants removal (endocrine disrupters)

In order to study the feasibility of this technique and the best operating conditions of the process, DAM has installed a pilot plant that employs ultrasounds and ozone. This pilot plant works with a flow rate of 50 m3/h and it will be installed in the WWTP of Carraixet (Alboraya, Valencia).

The feasibility of the treatment will be study in terms of biological contamination, its convenient location within the tertiary treatment and the energy savings that the use of this technology produces in comparison with the other disinfection processes currently employed.
